In the lifetime of those kings the God of heaven will set up a kingdom that shall never be destroyed or delivered up to another people; rather, it shall break in pieces all these kingdoms and put an end to them, and it shall stand forever. That is the meaning of the stone you saw hewn from the mountain without human hands, which broke in pieces the clay, iron, bronze, silver, and gold. The great God has revealed to the king what shall be in the future; this is exactly what you dreamed, and its meaning is sure. (Daniel 2:44-45)

Dear Friends,

Everyone has a testimony, don’t they, of what this or that belief or product or school or job has done for them? Almost all testimonies have to do with how these things cemented or secured their place in the world. They got off drugs, got a good job, got out of trouble with the law, found peace with themselves somehow. And all these are good things, to be sure. Many who get them say it was God who helped or even saved them.

But… there has to be another kind of testimony, too, in order for God’s will to be done on the earth. Not one of success in this world, but of deliverance from this world and all that it strives for. His Kingdom is not of this world, and to see His Kingdom come is going to take just the opposite of worldly success.Instead, bringing about His will and purpose requires deliberately turning away from the security the world has to offer.dan2REVISED

And that is the testimony of those who have been, as Daniel the prophet wrote, “hewn out of the mountain without hands” (Daniel 2:34 and 45). It is they who will bring about His will on the earth.

Those cut out of the world by the gospel are just like “…everyone whose spirit God had stirred to go up to rebuild the house of the LORD that is in Jerusalem.” (Ezra 1:5) But very few responded to that stirring by God’s Spirit. A modern Jewish teacher estimates only 5% of the Jews of that time did. Shocking, isn’t it? It all gets back to the comforts of Babylon, the pleasures of this world. So to this day some “hate their lives in this world” and others are content with it. Which we are determines where we are (or where we will be) in Daniel 2 in the Stone or in the Statue.

Hewn from the Mountain

While you looked at the statue, a stone which was hewn from a mountain StoneHittingwithout human hands struck its iron and clay feet, breaking them in pieces. The iron, clay, bronze, silver, and gold all crumbled at once, fine as the chaff on the threshing floor in summer, and the wind blew them away without leaving a trace. But the stone that struck the statue became a great mountain and filled the whole earth. (Daniel 2:34-35)

Right now there is a people being hewn from the mountain of the world. They are being formed and fashioned together, first having been cut out of the world, as it were, with a chisel. The diamond edge of that special chisel is the word of God, spoken by those who are not seeking their own glory. Their names are not up in stadium lights.

The “force” behind that chisel is the most powerful force in the universe: love. It is that love that chiefly draws all to His Kingdom. For it is only when His character is revealed to us, when we see Yahshua and our Father’s love, that there is a basis for our salvation.

Somehow the angels sent out to those “who are to inherit salvation” keep them until they can hear the good news. Angels work in our lives in ways often beyond our understanding until years later.

Then we see how the circumstances we went through brought us to a place where we could receive and obey the good news from a sent one:

But they have not all obeyed the gospel. For Isaiah says, “Lord, who has believed what he has heard from us?” So faith comes from hearing, and hearing through the word of Christ. (Romans 10:16-17)
